SUMMARY:19th century piano trios by Beethoven and Mendelssohn on period instruments
DESCRIPTION:Program:\n-Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827): Piano Trio in C minor Op. 1 N.3\n-Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847): Piano Trio in D minor Op. 49 N.1 \nPerformers:\n-Claire Holden\, classical violin\n-Guadalupe López-Íñiguez\, classical cello\n-Olga Andryushchenko\, historical pianos \nFree admission. \nThis research-led lecture-concert will bring together performer-scholars working in Finland\, Germany/Russia\, and the UK to present their work with Beethoven and Mendelssohn to the audience in a way that explores and demonstrates nineteenth-century style\, technique\, and expression in an engaging and meaningful way. The genius minds of Beethoven and Mendelssohn may already be familiar to modern audiences\, but presenting their music on period instruments\, in historical style\, will explore their works in a context that has the potential to offer new insights − thus bringing to life a sound world unfamiliar to today’s listeners. \nThe concert-lecture is hosted by the Center for Educational Research and Academic Development in the Arts (CERADA) and co-organised by Uniarts’ Center for Artistic Research (CfAR)\, and Oxford University’s Faculty of Music.
